Owners of an idled oil refinery are in the process of a major restart. The start-up of the refinery is expected to process 200,000 bbl/day of crude with the primary objective to meet the demands of the low sulfur standard established by the International Marine Organization (IMO). As part of the refinery re-start, the coker and de-sulfurization units will be put into operation.
JEPCO was asked to execute the engineering, procurement support and construction support activities for the refurbishment of the sulfur and coke handling process unit facilities. By considering and understanding the various options for solid block disposition, sulfur forming, stock yarding and transportation, companies who produce sulfur as a byproduct can achieve very successful results. Multiple solutions are available for coke and sulfur handling and each situation and location will need its own combination of systems and infrastructure to move the coke and sulfur products to its most commercially desirable destination.
The JEPCO on-site project team was responsible for all project engineering, scheduling, cost, staffing, and coordination with equipment suppliers.
